Reddish brown transparent flakes or brown powder. The aqueous solution is acidic and can be gradually reduced to ferrous citrate under the influence of light and heat. It dissolves slowly in water and is slightly soluble in hot water. The amount is very small. Solubility decreases with time and is almost insoluble in ethanol.
Application: Mainly used as an iron fortifier, added to biscuits, milk powder and wheat flour.
